Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has delivered a stern message to his teammates following their 1-0 defeat to Everton at Old Trafford. Despite having a numerical advantage after Idrissa Gueye’s early red card, the Red Devils were unable to break down a team struggling for away wins this season.

The Brutality of the Premier League
The defeat ended Manchester United’s five-game unbeaten run, leaving Ruben Amorim’s side in 10th place in the Premier League, far from the top-four ambitions. De Ligt admitted that the performance was below par and emphasized the harsh realities of England’s top flight.
“We conceded one goal AND we didn’t create many chances. Overall, it was just a really bad performance,” De Ligt said. “The Premier League is not for the weak. One chance can make all the difference, and efficiency matters. We lacked urgency to score and create opportunities, especially against a team like Everton who are strong defensively and in the air.”
United Must Bounce Back
Looking ahead, Manchester United will travel to Selhurst Park to face fifth-placed Crystal Palace. De Ligt stressed the importance of regrouping and improving their performance.
“The next game is really important. We have to bounce back. We had good performances recently, but today was not one of them. We need to stay together and focus on improving what went wrong,” he added.
