Patrice Evra has explained why he’s been begging Manchester United to win the Premier League title as soon as they can.
Man United last won the league title in 2013, under Sir Alex Ferguson. And since then, they have only battled to finish in the top-four, an achievement they couldn’t get last season.
Liverpool have only won the league title once, hence moving a step closer to matching United’s record 20 league titles that was set nearly 10 years ago.
The Reds have been a force in the past four years and have lost the league title on two occasions to Manchester City by a thin margin.
Evra doesn’t want Liverpool to match Manchester United’s record as the only team with the most league titles and has begged his former club to win the title as soon as they can.
“Now they’re on 19 and I don’t want Liverpool to equal that record, that’s why I’m begging the United players to win the league as soon as they can,” Evra said.
Manchester United are in the right direction this season, having won their last four league matches.
Although they are not considered as one of the top favourites for this season’s title, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is determined to put a stop to Man City and Liverpool dominance.
And the Dutchman is ready to do whatever it takes to achieve that, as he’s already made a bold statement by dropping Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench.
Evra believes Ten Hag has made the right decision to drop both players and said he’s pleased with the former Ajax manager’s decision to start Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at the back.
“I think Ten Hag and Ronaldo need to, if they haven’t already, have an honest discussion. Everything that is happening right now is logic.
“To drop the captain is a massive statement. This is more important than Cristiano Ronaldo or whoever. It must be hard for Harry Maguire.”
