Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has reacted to Donny van de Beek getting his first-ever Premier League assist.
Man United signed Van de Beek from Ajax last year but the attacking midfielder has struggled to be a regular starter under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 24-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday, is behind the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in the pecking order and as such, he has been rightfully benched by the Norwegian as both Fernandes and Pogba have been putting out fine performances.
Mason Greenwood opened the scoring with a fine finish after a great run from Marcus Rashford and a dummy from Bruno Fernandes.
James Tarkowski would pull United’s lead back with a fine header but Mason Greenwood was unstoppable and would restore Man United’s lead from a tight corner.
In the additional time, Donny van de Beek created a goal-scoring chance from a close range for Edinson Cavani and the Uruguayan made no mistake.
After the game, Bruno Fernandes was pleased with the Dutch midfielder and took to Twitter to reflect on Man United’s comfortable 3-1 win over the Clarets.
“Donny boy!! @Donny_beek6 What a way to celebrate your birthday,” said Fernandes.
“Another 3 points! Let’s keep making winning an habit.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted that the former Ajax man, who replaced Marcus Rashford in the 84th minute, was able to make a morale-boosting impact off the bench.
‘In the end Donny had to come on for [Rashford] and Donny did well, so I was pleased with that one,’ said the United boss after the game.
Van de Beek’s only other assist for United came in the Carabao Cup against Brighton all the way back in September.
