Brentford forward Ivan Toney has revealed how their tactics worked against Manchester United.
Man United have registered two defeats in their opening two Premier League games and haven’t scored a goal despite having the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen in the team.
Erik ten Hag wants his side to build play from the back and everyone saw that from Manchester United in pre-season.
However, that hasn’t helped The Red Devils this season so far, following two howlers from David de Gea that played a role in handing Brentford an early 4-0 lead.
De Gea may have made two errors that punished United eventually, Toney believes that it was down to Brentford’s relentless pressing that forced United to make errors in their own half.
The striker claims that he and his teammates knew that if they pressed United higher up the pitch, they would stand a chance and they eventually did.
Speaking after providing two assists against Manchester United, he said: “We knew the high press should affect them and it did — It is clear to see when you work hard you get results.”
David de Gea admitted his errors were the reason behind Man United’s defeat.
Speaking after the game, he told Sky Sports: “I cost three points to my team today and it was a poor performance from myself. It was a horrible day.”
