Tyrell Malacia reveals what Robin van Persie told him before Manchester United move

New Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has revealed what Robin van Persie told him before making a step-up move to Old Trafford.

Man United reached an agreement with Feyenoord last week over the transfer of Malacia. After resolving an issue involving his agent, the left-back put pen to paper on Tuesday with The Red Devils.

He becomes the first Manchester United signing under the management of Erik ten Hag. The 22-year-old would join the likes of Luke Shaw and Alex Telles as Ten Hag’s left-back options ahead of next season.

The Dutchman confirmed that he held talks with former Manchester United forward Robin van Persie before making the move to the Theatre of Dreams. And during these talks, Malacia revealed the former United and Arsenal forward hailed Man United as the biggest club in the world.

On his talks with RVP, Malacia told MUTV: “He says it is the biggest club and the feeling was good and he loved it here.

“It’s the biggest club in the world, and you can see it because of the fans, great stadium, a lot of prizes [trophies], and with the new coach he wants to build to be winning prizes again and I want to be part of that team.”

Robin van Persie has since posted a video of a congratulation message to Tyrell Malacia on his move to Manchester United and also revealed what the former Feyenoord fullback would bring to United.

Malacia also named Patrice Evra as one of United’s former players he admires and vows to fans that he’s keen on doing more than what the Frenchman did during his playing time at Old Trafford.

Patrice Evra,” the young fullback said when asked of United’s former players he admires. “I love his style – everything is fast, strong, energetic, everything… I want to do even better. I know it’s going to be difficult, but I set the bar high for myself – it’s what I want.

“I met some of the [Manchester United] players already and they gave me a good feeling and welcome me over here, so I feel like I’m at home already.”

On what he thinks when he thinks about The Red Devils, he said: “The stadium. Old Trafford, yeah, amazing. A couple of years ago we had a Nike Cup with Feyenoord – a tournament over here – and at that time I told my Dad ‘one time I will be back here’, and it happened.”

Tyrell Malacia’s message to United fans: “Hi, Manchester United fans, Tyrell here. I want to say thank you and I’m looking forward to playing for you and playing for this badge on my shirt. Let’s go.”
