Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has admitted that he got into trouble against Bukayo Saka during the game against Arsenal.
Malacia joined Man United from Feyenoord last summer to become an understudy to Luke Shaw at the left-back position.
But the Netherlands international has rather become United’s first-choice left-back, at the moment maybe, having started five times in the last six games in all competitions.
Although Malacia came up against Mohamed Salah during Manchester United‘s 2-1 win at Old Trafford in the Premier League, he admitted that he only got into trouble when he came up against Arsenal’s forward Bukayo Saka.
United beat Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford but the performance Arsenal put out at the Theatre of Dreams was outstanding and would have earned them all three points if they had come up against a different team or last season’s Man United team.
Saka was one of the Arsenal’s players who performed brilliantly at United, although Malacia said he took control of the England international after he went back to basics.
“I want to play against the best players, top matches. I love those, so it doesn’t make me nervous. I’m capable of it now,” Malacia told Voetbal International.
“For example, I got into trouble against [Bukayo] Saka. He started strong and then you can get confused as a defender. But I now know that if things don’t go well, I have to go back to basics. Thinking simple. Then I regained control.
“In terms of strength and power , I now experience something that I did before only with the Dutch squad. Then you also meet top players. Now it is the case every week.”
