Manchester United have been told that their move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is ‘dead’ and there are three reported reasons behind his decision, according to reports in Spain.
Man United showed strong interest in the midfielder but failed to reach Barca’s valuation of the former Ajax midfielder.
The Spanish club needed United to match their €85million valuation of De Jong but Manchester United were reluctant to meet their demands.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has previously stated that Barca are doing everything in their power to stop Frenkie de Jong from leaving the club, though they are aware the midfielder must accept salary cut in order to remain at Nou Camp.
According to Sport, the 25-year-old, who is also a transfer target for Chelsea, has ruled out a move to Manchester United.
The source claimed that the Netherlands international believes that Man United have “bad luck” and that joining them now, with no Champions League, would be a “loss of prestige” compared to FC Barcelona.
Sport further claimed these are the reasons behind the reason Frenkie de Jong neglected a chance to reunite with his former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
- He has just bought a house in Barcelona.
- His fiancée Mikky Kiemeney is delighted in Barcelona.
- His dream has always been to succeed at Barça.
Frenkie de Jong ranks high on Erik ten Hag’s transfer wishlist despite Christian Eriksen’s expected arrival to Old Trafford.
