Scott McTominay reveals Lisandro Martinez message after World Cup glory

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has revealed what Lisandro Martinez told him in a text after winning the Qatar World Cup.

Martinez joined Man United from Ajax over the summer and quickly become one of the fans’ favourites thanks to his style of play.

The former Ajax defender became a world champion when Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 3-3 after extra time.

Whilst celebrating the success, the 24-year-old received a congratulatory text from his team-mate, Scott McTominay, and his reply to the Scot convinced the Scotland international and many Manchester United fans that his hunger remains unchanged.

Speaking ahead of United’s game against Burnley in the Carabao Cup, McTominay said: “I messaged Lisandro [Martinez] the other day & said congratulations. He said ‘We go for the next one’.

“He’s just won a World Cup, so that shows the mentality in the group.”

Manchester United will host Burnley at Old Trafford on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup but Martinez is set to miss the game as he’s not expected to be at Manchester until next week.
