Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick was pleased with the performance Phil Jones put against Wolves and failed to give a guarantee that they will make the top-four finish.
Man United’s quest to force their way into the top-four takes a sour turn after they succumbed to rather a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Old Trafford.
The defeat leaves Manchester United four points away from 4th place Arsenal, who have played a game more, with 35 points.
Rangnick hints that he wouldn’t be convinced that the Red Devils will finish in the top-four this season if they continue to perform the way they did against Wolves.
“I cannot make any guarantees,” Ralf Rangnick told BBC. “Look at today’s performance if I say we are 100% convinced we will finish in the top four I don’t know if people will believe that.
“For me, it is about taking the next steps and getting better.”
Speaking of Phil Jones’ performance against Wolves, Rangnick was particularly pleased with the England international’s performance.
It was his first performance for Manchester United since 2019, over two years, and Rangnick thought the forgotten defender put out a ‘very good’ performance against the Wanderers.
“There was no doubt at all regarding his attitude because I saw him [Phil Jones] training,” Rangnick said.
“If you consider hasn’t played in two years it was a very good performance.”
Luke Shaw was also pleased with Phil Jones’ performance and urged his compatriot to be proud of his performance against Wolves tonight.
“One thing I will say is Phil Jones should be proud of himself,” Shaw told Sky Sports.
“He has been criticised for years, and has gone through a lot, but he is so professional and he has trained hard and he was phenomenal. He was exceptional.
