Pep Guardiola reacts to Bruno Fernandes’ controversial goal vs Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has explained why Bruno Fernandes’ goal should have been ruled out for a Marcus Rashford offside.

Man United scored two late goals to turn the event around at Old Trafford and hand Manchester United their 10th win on a bounce at the Theatre of Dreams.

Jack Grealish came on in the second half and opened the scoring with a decent header but two quick goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford meant that United won the return Manchester derby tie 2-1 at home.

Fernandes’ goal was a controversial call after Rashford appeared to be in an offside position but didn’t make any contact on the ball, leaving Fernandes to capitalise on the opportunity and convert from close-range.

The initial call was to rule the goal out for an offside but after a VAR review, the first call was cancelled and the goal was given.

Pep Guardiola believes Rashford was in an offside position and said his movement distracted Ederson and City defenders.

Speaking after the defeat, Guardiola told BT Sport: “Rashford was offside, he distracted our keeper and defenders.”
