Paul Scholes names club Manchester United will get in Europa League knockout stage

Paul Scholes has named the club he feels Manchester United will get in the Europa League knockout stage.

Man United failed to finish as the winners of Group when they only beat Real Sociedad 1-0 in Spain rather by a two-goal margin.

As a result, they are now expected to meet one of the teams that finished third in the Champions League group stage.

Among those teams are Ajax, Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen.

Scholes has a feeling Manchester United will get drawn against Ajax in the round of 32.

“I just have a feeling they will get Ajax in the play off,” Scholes said after the game.

Should Scholes be true, the likes of Erik ten Hag, Lisandro Martínez and Antony could face their former team months after their departure over the summer.

Owen Hargreaves believes Manchester United are the top dogs bar Barcelona against the teams that dropped from the Champions League.

“There is no easy team, I think Manchester United are favourite regardless who they play outside of Barcelona,” said Hargreaves.

Alejandro Garnacho scored the only goal to help Manchester United beat Real Sociedad.

Although the Red Devils didn’t win by a two-goal margin and failed to finish as the leaders, they remain unbeaten in their last nine matches across all competitions.

Bruno Fernandes reacts on who could be Manchester United’s next opponents: “That’s not a problem for us because if we want to win the Europa League we have to play the best teams sooner or later.”
