Paul Scholes makes Cristiano Ronaldo revelation ahead of Everton trip

Paul Scholes admits Cristiano Ronaldo was poor against Omonia but predicts he will score against Everton if Erik ten Hag gives him playing time.

Ronaldo fell short again in Cyprus after he missed loads of chances against Omonia on Thursday night in the Europa League.

The 37-year-old forward has only scored once this season and it was a goal from the penalty spot against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus forward was an unused substitute against Manchester City last weekend and the return of Anthony Martial will thwart the slim chances of Ronaldo getting some playing time in the league.

Ronaldo is increasingly unlikely to start against Everton this weekend in the Premier League but Scholes has told Erik ten Hag that his former team-mate will get on the scoreboard if he gets some scoring chances.

Paul Scholes Manchester United Cristiano Ronaldo Everton

“He had a lot of chances tonight which he didn’t score but that won’t happen for long with Cristiano. If he gets chances on Sunday [Everton] he will score,” Paul Scholes told BT Sport.

The former Manchester United midfielder also suggested that it might be time for Ten Hag to bench Bruno Fernandes on Sunday against Everton.

“Casemiro played in a three at Real Madrid all the time. He needs help. He will need Mctominay or Fred with him.,” Scholes added.

“It might be time for Bruno Fernandes to have a rest on Sunday.”
