Paul Pogba has revealed the moment that led to his strained relationship with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho may have fallen out with several senior players throughout his managerial career but his sour relationship with Pogba was on a different level.
The Portuguese tactician and France star divided the Manchester United fanbase when the former described the latter as a ‘virus’.
Mourinho would go on to bench the midfielder in big matches, strip him of the captaincy, and engage in an infamous row with the World Cup winner in 2018.
Like with Pogba, Mourinho would go on to fall out with other several senior Manchester United players, including Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw and that led to his sacking after his strained relationship with the first team affected United’s performances on the pitch.
The 29-year-old, who is currently a free agent, claimed that his strained relationship with Mourinho started when a paparazzi took a photo of him and his girlfriend while he was recovering from a muscle injury in Miami and Jose Mourinho sent the same photo to his agent, Mino Raiola.
“It started when I got injured,” Pogba told Prime Video via The Pogmentary. “I said I was going to Miami to do rehabilitation. A paparazzi took a photo of Zulay and me. Jose sent the picture to Mino. I didn’t like that at all. He said he’s on holiday when we are working like b*stards.
“I told Mourinho are you serious? I’m injured. I train three times a day here. Who do you think I am? It was new to me to have an issue with my coach.”
