"Passion and desire" - Bruno Fernandes reacts to Manchester United's win over Liverpool

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes wants his side to build on their performance against Liverpool.

Man United went against all odds to stage a hard-fought 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Jadon Sancho scored early in the first half after a great composure inside Liverpool’s penalty. Shortly after the second half, Marcus Rashford scored Manchester United’s second goal with a powerful strike. Mohamed Salah gave the travelling fans something to hold on to after he scored a consolation goal late in the game.

Bruno Fernandes captained the side to a tight win over Jurgen Klopp’s side after Erik ten Hag decided to drop Harry Maguire off his starting lineup.

Fernandes may not have scored or assisted against the Reds, but his passion and desire to ensure his side end their horrid start to the season with a win over Liverpool wasn’t questionable.

And after the game, he took to Twitter to reflect on United’s display and used the opportunity to encourage his team-mates to carry on from there.

Passion and desire, this is what Manchester United is all about. Now is about to carry on into the next games. Amazing atmosphere that pushed us to this victory,” tweeted Bruno Fernandes.

Erik ten Hag believes handing Bruno Fernandes the captaincy helped him perform better on Monday night and says the Portuguese star showed his leadership skills.

I think it [the captaincy] encouraged him [Fernandes] and I think he showed leadership with Raphael Varane – I think definitely on the pitch they make a huge difference,” said Ten Hag to Sky Sports.

Manchester United started off their season with two defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford but they recorded their first points on the Premier League board with a win over Liverpool.
