Manchester United will look to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Newcastle United on Saturday away from home in the Premier League.
Man United were trounced 6-1 by Tottenham before the international break and Bruno Fernandes had wished the Reds had played another game sooner in a bid to get over the disappointing defeat to Spurs.
For the Norwegian to improve United’s performances, the club legend MUST be ruthless while putting out his best XI and has to stand by his comments he made last season.
Solskjaer warned his misfiring attackers last season that he would be forced to field in on form defenders and midfielders if they [Martial, Rashford and James] failed to deliver.
The 47-year-old stood by it and was inspired to tweak his formation to a 3-4-3 formation. The Reds would go on to keep clean sheets against Chelsea and Man City with the formation.
It would be wise, regardless of who the Reds are facing, to return back to the 3-4-3 formation — now that Anthony Martial will miss three domestic matches following his dismissal against Tottenham. Edinson Cavani is also not expected to be part of United’s squad due to UK’s coronavirus guidelines.
Martial had underperformed in United’s opening three league’s games and his absence doesn’t mean Solskjaer should start Odion Ighalo when the ex-Watford man has not performed so well this season. Having the Nigerian on the bench would rather make a lot of sense.
Harry Maguire is on the brink of missing the clash with a knock injury but if he was declared fit in time for United, the England international would start alongside Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw. It isn’t new to see Shaw operate as left-centre-back. He famously impressed against Liverpool at Anfield and Man City at Etihad whilst playing beside Maguire.
New signing Alex Telles, who helped Brazil beat Peru 4-2 on Wednesday, is tipped to make his debut against Newcastle United and will operate as an overlapping left-back. The prolific defender is expected to help Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes to create loads of chances.
