Marcus Rashford winning fitness race ahead of Manchester City trip

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is reportedly winning the race to be fit in time for the Manchester City clash on Sunday in the Premier League.

Man United are back in action this weekend when they make a short trip to the other side of Manchester to take on 2nd-placed Man City at Etihad.

United are on a roll, having won their last four league matches against Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester City and Arsenal, with Marcus Rashford starting in each of those games.

The England international scored against Liverpool and Arsenal and set up Jadon Sancho’s match-winning goal at Leicester City and Antony’s debut goal against the Gunners and as a result of that, he’s an important player in Erik ten Hag’s squad.

His absence would obviously force the Dutchman into making a slight change to his best starting lineup, that had won him five games in a row in all comps.

However, according to the Sun, the 24-year-old forward is winning the race to be fit for what is said to be the first Manchester derby this season.

The same report confirms that the Manchester United academy graduate has resumed training and feels ready for the trip.

Rashford sustained the injury during his man of the match performance against Arsenal earlier this month and missed United’s two games against Real Sociedad and Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.

Should the English forward, who won the Premier League Player of the Month of September with two goals and two assists in two games, fail to win the race, Ten Hag could be forced to play either Bruno Fernandes or Christain Eriksen as a false 9 or still, could gamble on starting Cristiano Ronaldo, who endured a dreadful display against Spain on Monday night.

In addition; Harry Maguire has been ruled out of United’s game against Manchester City after enduring a knock during England’s 3-3 draw against Germany on Monday night in the UEFA Nations League.
