Marcus Rashford explains how Manchester United can finish as group winners after Sheriff Tiraspol win

Marcus Rashford believes Manchester United can only finish as group winners when they beat Real Soceidad by two goals in Spain.

Man United started their Europa League campaign with a 1-0 defeat at home but went on to win their next four games on a bounce.

They recorded a majestic 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol at Old Trafford, following goals from Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Sociedad have been perfect in the competition, winning their five matches in a row and they occupy the top spot with 15 points.

However, Manchester United can leapfrog them to the top spot in Spain when both sides meet in the return leg next week.

Man United need to beat the La Liga side by two goals to finish as the group winners on the last day of the group stage in a bid to avoid meeting any of the teams that finished 3rd in the Champions League in the knockout stages.

That’s because the ranking will be decided by head to head rather by goal difference, as it’s common in the Premier League.

Speaking after the win, Rashford told BT Sport: “We have to go there [against Real Sociedad] and win by two goals. We’ll do what we always do: try and create chances, try and score goals and defend well. It’s going to be a tough game, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

On his brilliant goal against Sheriff Tiraspol, he told MUTV: “A great cross and I just tried to guide it towards the near post.

“Great build-up, but patient play. In the position that Shaw’s in, it’s almost enticing to go across the face of goal, sometimes you just got to be calm and pick someone out.”
