Manchester United identify who'd lead their attack in pre-season if they failed in new striker pursuit

Manchester United are reportedly going to try Marcus Rashford as their centre-forward in pre-season if they failed to sign a striker in the summer, according to reports.

Man United are interested in signing at least one striker in the summer, who is expected to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in the attack.

Edinson Cavani will leave United next month as a free agent, Anthony Martial is also keen on leaving the club and Mason Greenwood is still suspended by Manchester United until further notice, which means getting a new striker in the summer is as important as any position in the team.

Darwin Nunez of Benfica has been strongly linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford but reports are suggesting that the £80million-rated Uruguay international, who is also a target for Liverpool and Arsenal, is not in a haste to join United as he reportedly wants to play in the Champions League.

His move to United isn’t an easy task but MEN report that if The Red Devils failed in their pursuit to sign a striker earlier, Marcus Rashford could be trialled as a centre-forward across United’s four friendlies against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

Erik ten Hag could decide to pair Cristiano Ronaldo and the England international as two centre-forwards, which would represent experience and energy.

However, the same report claims that Marcus Rashford has not received any direct clarity on his position from Manchester United– he is hopeful of impressing Erik ten Hag.

Rashford’s preferred position is the left-flank but has played a couple of games as a centre-forward under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Under Ralf Rangnick, he was played in the right position a few times, which also played a role in his dreadful performances this term.

Rashford scored four goals in the recently concluded Premier League season and started more games on the bench under the German tactician.
