Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed the reasons why Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho won’t face Real Sociedad on Thursday.
Man United will play visitors to Real Sociedad in Spain tomorrow in their last group stage game of this season’s Europa League.
United will look to maintain their momentum against the La Liga side but they will dare that without the services of some senior players.
Raphael Varane is out injured. Anthony Martial, who returned from nearly a month lower back injury this week, was not included in Ten Hag’s travelling squad, Antony and Sancho were left behind in Manchester.
Manchester United need to beat Real Sociedad by two goals to top the group, having lost the reverse fixture 1-0 in September at Old Trafford.
Speaking about the task ahead, Ten Hag added: “It’s important [to finish top of the group]. We can win tomorrow night.
“We know what we have to do win by a two-goal margin. But if you want to win the trophy you have to win all the games so we have to win every one.
“It’s six weeks ago or so [since losing vs Real Sociedad] and it’s a different team, not all the players then are fit.
“We’re growing, developing, making good progress. We know it’s difficult to win games here but we like the challenge.
“We know we have to win by two goals, we have a plan for that and we will do everything to get it done.”
