Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has hailed Lionel Messi as the greatest of all time and admits he feels ‘extremely proud’ to play alongside him.
Martinez moved to Man United over the summer from Ajax and wasted no time silencing his critics by putting up regular top performances.
The former Ajax defender has obviously improved United’s backline and the fighting spirit he relentlessly put in games has made him one of the most liked players among United fans.
The Argentina international spent a couple of months playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford but has quickly admitted that his compatriot, Lionel Messi, is the greatest of them all.
Messi is obviously one of the best performers in the ongoing Qatar World Cup with three goals and one assist but the same can’t be said of Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who only has one goal to show in three matches.
“As a teammate you give everything for him. He is the greatest of them all. To have him as my teammate makes me extremely proud.”
Argentina proceeded to the quarter-final following a tight 2-1 win over Australia and Martinez played a huge role in that when he made a last-ditch block to deny Australia a late 2-2 draw.
Martinez will look to help his country yet again when Argentina face the Netherlands in the Quarter-final this weekend.
