Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has explained how Erik ten Hag improved him as a player during their three years stay at Ajax.
Martinez signed a five-year deal with Man United this week after he completed his move from Ajax to United for a reported £55million transfer fee.
The defender has opened up on how Erik ten Hag developed him into a rock at the back and revealed what fans can expect from the former Ajax manager.
Speaking about Ten Hag, the Argentine said: “I was with him three years at Ajax and I know his style of playing. With him, I improved a lot, to be honest. He’s here in Manchester now, so again the opportunity was there and for sure he’s very important in my [career].
“[Ten Hag is] very intense, for sure. Good football. Winning mentality, you know? That’s the most important [thing]. Every player needs to have things clear. I think he’s very clear also.
“How did he [Ten Hag] help me to improve? In how we can understand fully the situations, the decisions inside the pitch. He’s there in every detail.”
Lisandro Martinez used the chance to rave about himself and his mentality when he claimed that he’s not only interested in winning games but also wants to help improve his team-mates.
“I really like to help my team-mates, but every player – I want the best for everybody,” he added. “If everybody is fit & everybody is good, then we can win, you know? — I’m really aggressive, I love to win – It’s all about winning. I’m a good friend, also!”
The centre-back started at the back as Manchester United beat Wrexham 4-1 in a friendly game that was played behind-closed-doors at Carrington.
