Lauren James’s goal against Chelsea Women is among Manchester United Women goal of the month of January contenders.

The 19-year-old forward curled her shot from outside the penalty box past Chelsea shot-stopper to score the equaliser in the 61st minute at Kingsmeadow.

Ella Toone passed a short pass to Kirsty Smith, the defender was unable to control the ball but would let Lauren James, who was near her, to get the ball moving.

James, sister to Reece James of Chelsea, played a one-two pass with Ella Toone and saw herself in front of a Chelsea defender, Millie Bright, dribbled past the No.4 and went for goal.

The 19-year-old would rather curl the ball in order to beat Chelsea’s goalie Ann-Katrin Berger to score the equaliser for Manchester United Women after they had gone behind Pernille Harder’s 30th minute strike.

Manchester United Women would go on to lose the Women Super League tie 2-1 to Chelsea after Fran Kirby scored the match-winning goal four minutes after Lauren James’s 61st-minute equaliser.

The defeat took place on January 17 and since then, Man United have won 2-0 each against Birmingham City and Everton in the Women Super League.
