Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata breaks silence after Bruno Fernandes was announced as the club’s new No.8.

Man United parted ways with Mata in June after both parties reached an agreement not to renew the former Chelsea midfielder’s contract.

The Spaniard donned the Manchester United No.8 jersey following his signing from Chelsea in 2014 under the former boss, David Moyes.

United announced ahead of the new season about the change of players’ numbers and following Mata’s departure, Fernandes becomes United’s new No.8, the same jersey number he donned at Sporting Lisbon.

And Mata has taken to Instagram to give his blessing to the Portuguese magnifico, who becomes his successor.

Bruno Fernandes, former United’s No.18, took to Instagram to announce his new number, to which Mata replied: “The best possible person to wear that number.”

Manchester United are expected to travel to Bangkok on Friday for their pre-season tour and they are expected to take the trip without their last season’s top goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, due to family issues.
