Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who was linked with a summer move to Manchester United, has not only hailed Lisandro Martinez as a ‘very aggressive’ defender but also admitted that he didn’t win every aerial duel challenge against the Argentine.
Man United had hoped to bounce back to winning ways against Brentford last weekend after their disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion but the reverse was the case as they lost 4-0 away to The Bees.
Although Toney didn’t score, the forward was a constant threat to the Manchester United backline and it looked like he bullied United’s new signing Martinez on every aerial duel challenge both made on the left side of United’s backline.
Toney’s dominance on the Argentine international didn’t only inspire Brentford to get the job done 34 minutes into the game but also left Erik ten Hag no choice but to haul his new signing off at half-time.
The Brentford forward has claimed that he wasn’t dominant over Martinez as many have claimed it to be, insisting that sometimes when the Manchester United defender loses an aerial duel challenge, he makes it up on the floor and in overall, it was a 50-50 battle.
“It was a 50-50 and sometimes I got the better and sometimes he got the better”
Ivan Toney provided two assists to help Brentford beat Manchester United 4-0, having lost both league matches to United last season.
