Erik ten Hag has described Manchester United’s defeat to Brentford as ‘rubbish’ following poor performances from his players.
David de Gea gifted two early goals to Brentford. He let Dasilva’s strike slipped off his grasp and gave a short pass to Christian Eriksen inside his penalty area and Brentford capitalised from it.
Manchester United were already four goals down after 34 minutes and The Red Devils couldn’t pull a goal back in the second half despite Erik ten Hag’s early substitutions.
When asked about his thoughts on how Man United gifted Brentford the game, he told beINSPORTS: “It’s rubbish, it’s poor. We need higher standards than that, that’s clear.
When asked about what went wrong with his side today, he added: “I can bring up several reasons why but that looks like excuses, and excuses are not there. At the top we have to deliver and we didn’t do [that].”

Erik ten Hag may have laid Brentford’s win on Manchester United’s individual errors, but he believes it’s fair to say The Bees were more hungrier than his side.
“That is fair [that Brentford were hungrier than Manchester United],” he told Sky Sports. “It is not possible. That is when I talk about responsibility. Switch on from the first whistle and be ready for a battle.
“Making such mistakes, you cannot make them at our level — they were really disappointed but you have to keep going because there is a lot of time to play.”
Manchester United will face Liverpool next in the Premier League next two Mondays at Old Trafford.
United occupy the 20th position in the league after two games and has -5 goals difference.
