How's this a penalty? Lisandro Martínez gives away controversial penalty during Real Sociedad clash

Manchester United are 1-0 down to Real Sociedad after the away side scored from the penalty Lisandro Martínez gave away.

Martinez came on in the second half for Diogo Dalot but went on to gave away a penalty after his attempt to block David Silva from having a go on goal.

The Argentine blocked the strike with his thigh but the effort got deflected and made contact on his right hand.

It was obviously an unintentional act from the former Ajax defender because he wasn’t facing in the direction of the ball.

The centre referee pointed at the spot immediately. After a VAR review, the initial call wasn’t overturned.

It became worse. The referee gave Martinez a yellow card for handling the ball.

Mendez scored from the penalty spot and Manchester United lost the Europa League group stage game after they failed to fight their way back into the game.
