HOW POSSIBLE? Southampton blocked four Man United shots on target

Manchester United came close to getting the breakthrough but Southampton proved unbeatable after they made four blocks in the space of 30 seconds.

The first half was entirely open for either team to break the deadlock but it was Man United, who had the best chance.

A beautiful cross from Christian Eriksen to Bruno Fernandes started what many couldn’t explain how Southampton defended four shots from entering.

Fernandes’ header wasn’t impactful but the following up from Anthony Elanga led to two shots on target but they were denied by the goalkeeper.

The ball fell back to Fernandes and the Portuguese midfielder’s volley was kept out by a Southampton defender.

The rebound rolled calmly onto Eriksen’s path but his shot was also blocked by a defender. Southampton put bodies on the line to ensure the scoreline remained equal.

United and Southampton were forced to settle the first half in a goalless draw.
