Daily Telegraph have predicted Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United starting lineup against Brighton and Hove Albion in his first Premier League clash.
Man United will kick off their new season with a tricky game against Brighton at Old Trafford this weekend and Ten Hag is thinking only about starting strong.
The Dutchman ended his pre-season with two draws and one defeat, having won all opening three friendlies against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace.
Although Cristiano Ronaldo made his first appearance under Ten Hag last weekend, the Portuguese forward is increasingly likely to start on the bench, according to Daily Telegraph, with Anthony Martial set on leading the attack.
The outlet also predicted that Erik ten Hag will start with Scott McTominay and Fred in a double pivot behind Bruno Fernandes in the midfield.
Jadon Sancho, who missed United’s last two games due to illness, is expected to join the attack alongside Martial and Marcus Rashford. It was also predicted that Tyrell Malacia, who impressed against Atletico Madrid at the expense of Luke Shaw’s absence due to illness, is tipped to start on the bench for the England international.
David de Gea to remain in goal and could be guided by the likes of Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Diogo Dalot. The same back four Erik ten Hag used against Atletico Madrid last Saturday.
GK: David de Gea
DF: Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw
MF: Scott McTominay, Fred, Bruno Fernandes
FW: Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford
Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen are expected to make the squad for the opener on Sunday. Tyrell Malacia is also expected to be in the team, following Alex Telles’ temporary move to Sevilla.
James Ducker’s predicted starting lineup is 80% the same lineup Erik ten Hag used against Atletico Madrid. The likes of Malacia and Anthony Elanga started the game due to the absence of Shaw and Sancho.
And the journalist is expecting both Englishmen to be fit in time for this weekend’s tie, hence his predicted lineup.
In addition, Man Utd Times are tipping Sancho to return back to the lineup if he’s fully fit for the game and regardless of Shaw’s fitness, Malacia is getting the nod to start.
It is also imperative to understand that this is just the predicted starting lineup for the opener only and it is in no way Erik ten Hag’s most-preferred starting lineup. This lineup played the majority of Ten Hag’s first pre-season friendlies, hence why he’s tipped to work with it against The Seagulls.
As the season approaches, Ten Hag will decide on his regular starters. We will find out if Lisandro Martinez is good enough to break the bond between Maguire and Lindelof and Eriksen to come in between Fred and Scott McTominay [McFred] in the midfield.
