Several Manchester United fans have slammed David de Gea after the goalie claimed he’s honestly proud of his season so far.
Man United are poised on finishing the season without a single trophy and are still uncertain whether or not they would be going to the Europa League next season. This obviously reflects how dreadful United have been this term.
United MUST beat Crystal Palace on Sunday to ensure they finish 6th in the Premier League or hope West Ham United don’t get a win at Brighton and Hove Albion.
Manchester United have scrapped the club’s annual Player of the Year ceremony in the wake of their worst-ever Premier League season.
And De Gea, who concedes Man United haven’t been their best this season, but claims that he was proud of his own individual performance.
The Spaniard and Cristiano Ronaldo have obviously been United’s best players this season but the former angered some Manchester United fans when he mapped himself out for special praise.
David de Gea: “It will always have been a tough season for us, but I am very proud of my season, to be honest.
“I worked really hard in the summer to be here and be ready to play and show my qualities for the team. I think I did very well. I played very consistent this season and helped the team a lot.”
Reflecting on his performances in 2021/22, the 31-year-old continued: “Maybe it is one of my best seasons. I have had very good seasons before, but I think it has been a very good one.”
And some Manchester United fans weighed in on De Gea’s comments, with a fan @WcSauce2 saying: “Man’s toxic, get him out.”
@LucasDinef said: “And you should be David, you and Ronaldo can Get out of the season knowing you have done everything.”
“Add him to the list of the players who only cares about themselves and not the team and thus needs to be booted out along with Pogba and co,” said @Harry188_UTD.
Another tweeted: “@MikeLUHG2 he’s proud of failure Hope this helps.”
Manchester United will face Crystal Palace on Sunday and David de Gea has backed his team-mates to win the game for the fans.
David de Gea told MUTV: “We know [this season has] been difficult, but at least just for [the fans] and for our pride [we will] try to win the game [vs Crystal Palace], at least give a win for the fans because they have been absolutely amazing for the whole season.”
The Spanish international has conceded 56 goals in 37 Premier League games this term so far. And it could extend further when United take on Crystal Palace this weekend.
