“He’s a connector” – Erik ten Hag explains Fred’s playing role at Manchester United

"He's a connector" - Erik ten Hag explains Fred's playing role at Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted that he’s loved the way Fred has performed in the role he wants him to play.

Ten Hag has explained the role Fred plays in his midfield and confirmed that he has been pleased with the midfielder’s performances so far.

Following the Dutchman’s comments, one would easily claim that Fred’s playing role is exactly the reason he wants Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

Speaking to MEN, Ten Hag said: “In the moment he [Fred] is playing in the role as connecter, defending to offence.

“He is playing it quite well, I am satisfied with his performance. I think he can even be better. I will support him in that. He also brings energy in the team by his attitude.”

Fred scored against Liverpool last week in Manchester United’s first pre-season game.

The Brazilian has started in each of Man United’s three pre-season games and Ten Hag has been pleased with him so far.

Manchester United will face Aston Villa on Saturday and it’s another chance for Fred to add mow minutes in the tank.
