Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was pleased with Scott McTominay and hailed his performance as ‘magnificent’ against Liverpool.

McTominay has endured widespread criticism from fans and football pundits and was dropped to the bench against Brentford two weekends ago.

He made a surprise start against Liverpool but proved many wrong with a commanding display in the midfield.

Erik ten Hag was pleased with his performance and thought he played magnificently against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Speaking after the game, the Dutchman said: “Tactically, you see where you can have weapons in the game. You see we have speed then Fernandes and Eriksen have a pass. Scott McTominay had a magnificent game.”

The former Ajax manager was also pleased with his side’s performance collectively but urges them to replicate this form in their upcoming games.

Erik ten Hag continued: “I was happy with it [the performance], but you have to bring it every game. Not only one game… Every Premier League game is difficult, is heavy, so we have to bring it in every game.”

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford scored to help Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford.
