Erik ten Hag set to make Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire decisions vs Liverpool

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly decided to drop both Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo to the bench against Liverpool.

Man United are anxious to put their horrid start to the season to a stop when they face Liverpool at Old Trafford tonight but they could be forced to do that without a couple of their senior players in the starting lineup.

According to talkSPORT, Erik ten Hag has decided to drop Harry Maguire to the bench because he wants to try out a new partnership that involves Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Martinez hasn’t been bright this season so far but Ten Hag’s decision to drop his captain to the bench in what is said to be a big game against the Reds speaks a lot on how poor the England international has been.

Ten Hag didn’t stop there. Sky Sport have reported that Cristiano Ronaldo, who hasn’t scored in two league games this term, will start on the bench against Liverpool, in a bid to let Anthony Martial, who returned from a hamstring injury last week, to lead Manchester United’s attack.

The Dutchman had planned to kick off his season with Martial as his no.9 against Brighton & Hove Albion but a muscle injury ruled the Frenchman out of the game as well as last two weekend’s defeat to Brentford.

Anthony Martial is fit and if the reports are true, he could start alongside Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho across the front line.

Would Ten Hag further show his ruthless side by dropping Bruno Fernandes, who hasn’t been great since last season?

This report emerged after Wayne Rooney had suggested that he would drop Cristiano Ronaldo from his starting lineup because he doesn’t work hard enough for the team.
