Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has explained what the likes of Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo will do before they start starting games for the Reds.
The pair started on the bench against Leicester City and Man United took charge of the game early in the first half without their assistance.
The duo entered the action in the second half and made their presence felt. Casemiro helped Scott McTominay and others prevent the Foxes from pulling off an upset while Ronaldo created a few goalscoring chances.
Ronaldo has started only once so far under Erik ten Hag and the game ended 4-0 in favour of Brentford. Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid this summer and made his debut against Southampton.
Many had anticipated the Brazilian to get his full debut by replacing Scott McTominay in the lineup against Leicester tonight but Ten Hag would rather stick to his winning team.
The Dutchman wants both Ronaldo and Casemiro to regain full fitness before starting games and said the former needs more time to understand the Premier League style of play.
Speaking after the game, Ten Hag told BBC: “Once Casemiro and Ronnie [Cristiano Ronaldo] get fitter and fitter, we need not only a team, but a squad.
“He [Casemiro] has to get used to a different league. He has achieved everything possible and now has to adapt to his new team-mates.”
Erik ten Hag on Ronaldo being on the bench for a third game in a row: “It is really early in the season. We have a squad, more than a starting XI.”
