Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed what Fred told him before the game against Tottenham.
Ten Hag raised some eyebrows when he decided to start Fred in the midfield against Tottenham on Wednesday night, given his drab performance against Newcastle United last weekend.
That was as a result of Christian Eriksen not being fit enough to start and Scott McTominay was only coming back from a match suspension.
The Dutchman asked the Brazil international whether he’s ready to feature against Spurs and Fred grabbed the chance with both hands.
Shortly after the second half, Fred opened the scoring after his strike was deflected. His performance in the first half was brilliant as the second half, only that it lacked a goal.
Speaking about Fred, Ten Hag told Prime Video: “I want to get the best out of all my players but that is to do with team performances and the way of playing, rules and principles to get the philosophy in. Today it was a team performance then individuals can show themselves.
“I said to him before the match: ‘Are you ready?’ and he said: ‘I am always ready’ and he [Fred] showed that today.”
After the final whistle, Ten Hag said he told his players in the dressing room that their performance against Spurs was an eye-catching one.
“I said to the lads in the dressing room, it was so enjoyable to watch it,” he told The Athletic.
