Erik ten Hag reacts to Manchester United Europa League group stage draw

Manchester United discovered their Europa League group stage opponents earlier today and Erik ten Hag has refused to underrate the teams, hailing them as ‘good’ teams.

The Europa League group stage draw took place on Friday afternoon in Istanbul and Real Sociedad, Sheriff Tiraspol and Omonia joined Man United in Group E.

United are no strangers to Real Sociedad, given that they came up against each other twice last season in the Europa League round of 32 and Manchester United emerged as winners. The Reds won 3-0 in Spain but played a goalless draw in the return leg at Old Trafford.

Man United haven’t come up against Sheriff and Omonia but the former stunned many football lovers when they pulled off a historic win over Real Madrid in Spain in the Champions League group stage last season.

Speaking about the draw, Ten Hag told MU ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Southampton: “Europe is always something special and you don’t know your opponents that well. But I think they will be good opponents.

Real Sociedad are a really great club in Spain, now sixth in the league, and I saw them, coincidentally, play at the weekend against Barcelona and they competed really well so they will be tough opponents.

“There are the other two teams too – Sheriff beat Real Madrid last year, so they must be good. We have to be really well prepared to do well in this competition.”

Manchester United won the competition in 2017 under Jose Mourinho after they won Ajax 2-0 in Stockholm. The Reds went close to winning the title again last two seasons but lost the final to Villarreal on penalties.
