Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was pleased with the performances of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho against Sheriff Tiraspol.

Man United needed to avoid a defeat in Moldova to ensure their qualification to the Europa League round of 16 remains in their court.

The home side started brightly but their intensity was halted when Jadon Sancho scored a brilliant goal with his left-foot.

Manchester United maintained their momentum afterwards and forced a penalty, of which Cristiano Ronaldo scored.

United are now very much in a good position to qualify for the next round but Ten Hag was obviously happy with his goalscorers.

Speaking after the win, the Dutchman said: “I’m really pleased [for Jadon Sancho]. Another goal… he’s doing well, but I think there’s much more room for improvement for him, because  he has so many skills.”

On Cristiano Ronaldo, he added: “Ronaldo needed that goal. Many times he came close, but he wanted that so much.

“We are happy for him and the team wanted to bring him a goal. You know that Cristiano will score a penalty.”

Manchester United won’t be in action until next month when they face Manchester City away from home.
