Erik ten Hag not sure if Eriksen and Martinez would play vs Atletico, reacts to Jadon Sancho absence

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has refused to confirm whether both Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez would feature against Atletico Madrid and also revealed why Jadon Sancho missed today’s game.

Man United will face Atletico today in Oslo and will look to maintain their unbeaten run in pre-season, having won three games and drew one.

Both Eriksen and Martinez started and helped Manchester United beat Wrexham 4-1 during a behind-closed-doors friendly at Carrington on Wednesday.

But the pair returned to the bench against Atletico Madrid and Ten Hag is refusing to admit both would feature today because he wants as many players as possible to play 90 minutes against the La Liga side.

“We will see,” said Erik ten Hag when asked if both new signings would play today. “We want as many players as possible to get 90 minutes. They are not ready for that. We go step by step and give them playing time today or tomorrow or today and tomorrow.”

Manchester United will end their pre-season with a home game against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday and that’s a chance for the Dutchman to start both Martinez and Eriksen.

Speaking about Sancho‘s absence, he said: “Overnight he got sick so he is not available.”
