Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Anthony Martial will miss the Southampton clash with an injury, but confirmed Casemiro is fit for the game.
Man United registered their first win in the Premier League this season when they went against all odds to beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Anthony Martial, who missed United’s opening two fixtures due to a hamstring injury and came on in the second half against Liverpool, will miss tomorrow’s game due to an injury.
Speaking ahead of the game, Ten Hag told MUTV: “He [Anthony Martial] came out with a problem with his achilles. I hope he will be available for the next game.”
The Dutchman confirms that Casemiro has trained and is available to play against Southampton: “Casemiro is fit. He did all of the training sessions. He trained first individually and, the last days, he trained with the team.”
Southampton will stand a totally different challenge compared to Liverpool’s and it’s obviously the type of test United faced against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford and they lost both games.
Speaking about the lunchtime clash, Ten Hag said: “It’s a different challenge, so I’m curious whether we learned our lesson against Brentford.
“We need to have a high standard. In possession, we need runs and movement. Out of possession the intensity has to always be right to get a result.
“The spirit was already good but now it is even better, but it’s only one game so we have to build further, we have to develop and I think everyone is aware of that.”
