Erik ten Hag gives injury updates on Jadon Sancho and Antony ahead of Aston Villa clash

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has identified Jadon Sancho and Antony as doubts for the Aston Villa game on Thursday in the Carabao Cup.

Man United will host Villa at Old Trafford in the third round of the cup competition and could be without their two wingers.

Sancho has missed Manchester United’s last two games due to illness while Antony has missed United’s last three games with an injury.

Ten Hag said of their fitness: “Jadon Sancho, we have to wait, and Antony, we have to wait, today, on final training.”

Anthony Martial made returned from his lower back injury in the second half against Aston Villa last weekend and is in contention to start against Villa on Thursday night.

“As you have seen, Anthony Martial was back for the last 20 minutes at Villa, so we are happy with that,” Ten Hag said of Martial’s fitness.

“We hope he can continue this tomorrow, he will be in the squad, he will have minutes, definitely, if he’s recovered good.”

Manchester United lost to Aston Villa last weekend 3-1 in the Premier League courtesy of dreadful collective performance.

But they have a chance to get it right against the Villans and that’s exactly what Ten Hag wants.

“We were not happy with our performance at Villa Park and we make it quite clear in our analysis that it’s not acceptable, it’s never acceptable,” Ten Hag added. “We have to deliver in every game and that is the culture we have to have here.

“We can’t change it [the defeat to Aston Villa] but we want a reaction. We take every game seriously and we want to win this cup.”
