Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has issued the latest news on Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Antony as he heaped praise on Anthony Martial ahead of the Fulham trip.
Man United will face the Cottagers on Sunday in the Premier League and the likelihood of travelling with the same squad as Aston Villa on Thursday is high, following Ten Hag’s latest update.
Ronaldo, Sancho and Antony missed the resounding 4-2 win over Villa at Old Trafford on Thursday due to illness and injury issues.
And the trio are doubts for the Fulham trip after Ten Hag admitted that he wasn’t certain whether or not they will be in his squad.
Speaking on Ronaldo’s fitness, Ten Hag said: “I can’t guarantee that [Cristiano will be available vs Fulham] now, but today [yesterday] he was ill.
“He can recover, it’s not really a serious illness that takes days or weeks, so I think it’s possible that he is available for Sunday and he will be in the squad.”
On Antony, the former Ajax manager added: “We will work on that, but I can’t confirm that he will be in the squad for Sunday. But, he [Antony] made progress in the last days and we will see tomorrow, Saturday, if he will be available for the team on Sunday.”
The Dutch tactician may not be sure if Antony will play this weekend, but he’s certain that the injury is unlikely to rule Antony out of the World Cup.
“Then it’s normal that you don’t get the nomination for it [the World Cup]. Every manager will take only fit players to the World Cup.”
Ten Hag on Brandon Williams, who hasn’t featured for Manchester United this season: “Brandon [Williams] wasn’t available, [he had] a bad injury, and really struggled but he is in the right direction. He is in a good way, he is back on the pitch and he will return to team training next week.”
It’s obvious Erik ten Hag wants Anthony Martial to remain in the team, thanks to his playing pattern.
The Man United boss was full of praise for Martial, after the Frenchman scored his 4th goal in his 6th appearance against Aston Villa on Thursday.
“He plays very well in a lot of aspects of football, I’m happy with that, except his availability,” Ten Hag said. “But we also have others and we have played with Marcus Rashford as the nine. We also have Cristiano Ronaldo, so we have more options there.
“It’s quite clear in my way of playing, I like the type that Anthony Martial is because he can hold the ball, he’s a target, he can link up, he can also run behind, he has speed, he can finish and he’s a good presser.”
He added: “Of course, we analyse that as well, he’s [Martial] analysing that, what can we do to change that? We took some measures to do that, so it’s always when you often have injuries and illness, there is a reason.”
