Erik ten Hag gives Anthony Martial injury update, reacts to Casemiro performance vs Everton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has issued an update on Anthony Martial, as he lauds Casemiro for his performance against Everton.

Ten Hag started Martial alongside Marcus Rashford and Antony but the Frenchman’s chances to impress were cut short after he was hauled off early in the game and was replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Before he succumbed to the injury, he provided the assist to Antony’s equaliser, minutes after Alex Iwobi had opened the scoring.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Martial suffered something different from his previous injury issues, as the latest setback has to do with his back.

“It was something different, he [Anthony Martial] had a problem in his back,” said Ten Hag. “I have to see. I cannot tell what it is or how serious it is. I need to wait 24 hours.”

The Dutchman decided to start Casemiro in the midfield alongside Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes and the Brazilian international provided the assist to Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal and put out a top performance.

After the final whistle, Ten Hag told BT Sport: “We saw during the game how important he [Casemiro] is. He’s composed, winning a lot of balls, winning also the ball for the goal of Cristiano Ronaldo. Good performance.”

On his tactical changes, the former Ajax boss added: “We were happy with all the subs, Ronaldo got the winning goal and Varane showed his importance with his organisation and heading capacity.”
