Erik ten Hag fires Everton warning to Manchester United ahead of FA Cup clash

Erik ten Hag has warned his Manchester United squad that Everton will be ‘highly ambitious’ to win the FA Cup game at Old Trafford on Friday night.

The Toffees may have struggled to maintain their consistency this season but they somehow turn up and become a totally different team against the top guns.

They held Manchester City to a frustrating 1-1 at the Etihad in the Premier League on December 31 and played a goalless draw against Liverpool earlier this season.

Manchester United struggled out a 2-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park the last time both teams met last year in the Premier League and Ten Hag is obviously expecting the struggling Blues to fight to win the game on Friday night.

“It’s a really good opponent and we faced them once already in the league. It was a good game on our side but at that time they were really on track. We faced them in the winter break [behind-closed-doors] and they have great players and a great manager,” said Ten Hag.

“I’m sure tomorrow [Friday] they will be highly ambitious to win that game. They [Everton] showed [at the weekend] against City, where they had a really good performance and they got a point. It was well deserved. We know we have to be ready for that game.

“We know we have to put the energy in and we know we have to be at 100 per cent to win that game. When we are not, then we get killed. That’s not what we are aiming for, that’s quite clear.”

Manchester United will return to another action three days later at Old Trafford when they host Charlton Atheltic in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils have won their last four matches after the restart of club action and kept four clean sheets in the process.
