Erik ten Hag asked if Arsenal & Liverpool wins give Man United boost vs Man City

Erik ten Hag agrees wins over Arsenal and Liverpool give Manchester United the confidence to face Manchester City.

Man United had a tough start to the season following disappointing defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford but that quickly changed when they got their first win of the season over Liverpool.

United were underdogs at Old Trafford against Jurgen Klopp’s side but that didn’t prevent resilience Manchester United side to stun Liverpool 2-1 at the Theatre of Dreams. Thanks to goalscorers Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils would go on to maintain their momentum with tight wins over Southampton and Leicester City and a convincing 3-1 win against Arsenal at Old Trafford. Thanks to two goals from Marcus Rashford and a goal from Antony.

Erik ten Hag‘s side have won five from their last six games in all competitions, which obviously prove they are on a roll.

Manchester United will play visitors to Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League as underdogs once again but the Reds will look to ensure their record against the top-six side this term remains perfect.

Although Ten Hag relishes the idea of performing well against the best sides in the league, he would rather want his team to perform regularly against any team.

Asked if wins vs Arsenal and Liverpool give Manchester United the confidence for Manchester Derby, Ten Hag said: “Yes, but when I analysed those games then I have to be critical. There is room for improvement and we have to keep this process moving.

“If we keep beating big teams then you have to improve. I want to have stable performances not just against the big teams but against everyone.”

Manchester City are occupying the 2nd position with 17 points after seven matches, while United dropped to sixth position following Chelsea’s late 2-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

A win over Pep Guardiola’s side would take Manchester United into the 4th position with 15 points after seven games.
