Cristiano Ronaldo unlikely to feature in Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid friendly

Manchester United forward Cristian Ronaldo is reportedly unlikely to feature against Atletico Madrid on Saturday in Oslo.

Man United this weekend will round up what has been an exciting pre-season with friendlies against Atletico on Saturday at Oslo and Rayo Vallecano on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to miss the friendly game against Diego Simeone’s side according to The Athletic but he has better chances of featuring against Vallecano on Sunday.

The Portuguese forward obviously wants to leave Manchester United this summer despite United chiefs and Erik ten Hag wanting him to stay put at the Theatre of Dreams.

The 37-year-old returned back to Manchester on Tuesday after missing United’s pre-season tour and while several reports claim Ronaldo’s decision to return to Carrington is a good sign that he’d remain at Old Trafford beyond this season, reports in Spain claim that the prolific forward still wants out.

According to multiple sources this week, Cristian Ronaldo has told Manchester United to relinquish him of his contract so he could leave United this summer to join a Champions League club, with Atletico Madrid more likely to be his next destination.

Ronaldo, who was one of the spectators at Carrington on Wednesday during Man United’s behind-closed-doors clash against Wrexham, was not pictured with his team-mates during today’s training session.

Erik ten Hag explained to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner why he wants him to remain at United this season during talks this week but the Dutchman reportedly failed to convince CR7 otherwise.

Atletico Madrid are going to offload two players in a bid to accommodate Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad and Ronaldo is open to exercising patience. Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata are both players likely to leave this summer.

Manchester United beat Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and drew against Aston Villa in pre-season without Ronaldo in the squad.
