Barcelona join Manchester United in Enzo Fernandez pursuit

Barcelona have reportedly joined Manchester United in the transfer race to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, according to reports.

Reports emerged this week that Man United are ‘crazy’ and ‘determined’ about signing Fernandez from Benfica when the transfer window reopens in January.

The same outlet, Diario Record, that reported Manchester United’s interest in Fernandez this week, has claimed that Barca are in the chase for the Portuguese star’s signature.

Diario Record did not specify if Barcelona would show interest in the Benfica midfielder in the winter transfer window but did confirm that the La Liga outfits are one of the top clubs keen on the central midfielder’s services.

Manchester United‘s top priority is to sign a right-back in January as Aaron Wan-Bissaka is keen on leaving the club in search of playing time.

Erik ten Hag wants a new fullback that will challenge Diogo Dalot, who has performed brilliantly this season, for a starting role at the right-back position.

The likelihood of Manchester United signing Enzo Fernandez in January is slim, given the number of options the Dutchman has at his disposal.

United currently have the likes of Scott McTominay, Fred, Christian Eriksen, Donny van de Beek and Casemiro that can play as central midfielders.

The Red Devils will have to let one midfielder or two leave in January in a bid to create room for the 21-year-old.
