Antony has claimed that Ajax rejected Manchester United’s latest offer because they felt they would have limited time to sign his replacement.
Man United are obviously interested in signing Antony from Ajax this summer and because he remains one of Erik ten Hag’s top priorities, United haven’t walked away from the deal.
Reports emerged today that Manchester United offered €90million to the Dutch club for the Brazilian but Ajax turned the offer down.
Ajax have made it known that they are not interested in selling the Brazil international this summer, although Antony has claimed that he had informed the Eredivisie giants early this year of his desire to quit the club this summer.
Speaking to Fabrizio Romano, the 22-year-old said: “I made it clear, I want to leave the club. Today, in a meeting with the club I expressed my old interest in leaving the club. Only this time with a considerable offer on the table. Other offers already arrived, Ajax always refused.
“Ajax hinders my exit with the argument that they only have 5 days to replace me. I am not asking for them to release me. I am asking Ajax to sell me as the highest bid received by a player who plays in the Eredivisie in history. I have been insisting since February.
“I was very happy in Amsterdam. I won titles, made friends. But now I want to follow my story and dreams. People need to listen to me and understand my motivation which moves me towards happiness. I need to continue performing at the highest level.”
Antony obviously wants to join Manchester United and has attempted to force his move out by refusing to train with the Dutch club, which eventually ruled him out of last weekend’s game at Sparta Rotterdam and is set on missing this weekend’s game against FC Utrecht.
Manchester United are reportedly planning on making a fresh bid to Ajax for the left-foot winger in the coming days but it’s been reported since that Ajax only want a transfer fee of €100m.
United are also interested in signing Cody Gakpo but the Red Devils have cooled their pursuit of the PSV star in a bid to prioritise Antony’s move.
