Anthony Martial describes Cristiano Ronaldo using two words, names best player he’s played with

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has described Cristiano Ronaldo as ‘super humble’ and hailed Wayne Rooney as the best player he’s ever played with.

Ronaldo had a brilliant second debut season after he rejoined Man United from Juventus last summer, although his return forced Daniel James to make a permanent departure to Leeds United and Martial to spend the second half of the season on loan at Sevilla.

This season, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is seemingly behind the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the pecking order for the no.9 role.

The Portuguese forward has started twice out of seven appearances this season so far and while it is obvious that Ronaldo isn’t happy about his lack of game time, Martial believes the former Real Madrid forward remains humble.

“Super humble. And what a hard worker! We often speak when we were at the gym in the morning before going to training and I watched what he was doing,” Martial told France Football of the 37-year-old striker. “And that’s logic, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo!”

The former Monaco forward has heaped praise on Wayne Rooney, a former team-mate to him and Ronaldo, and also named him as his model.

Martial has played alongside some exciting forwards including Zaltan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku but he named Rooney as the best he has ever shared the pitch with.

“We have spoken about being genuine and so I can speak about Wayne Rooney,” said Martial. “He’s the best player I have played with, always playing for the team, always at 100%, no fuss. A monster. And a model as a footballer.”
